All about us!

As we continue to work on our websites there is a page where students can put in their interests, hobbies and favorites.  While the older students have been using the yome avatar creator the 3rd graders are using a lego avatar create which is lots of fun.  I explain to the students that an avatar can be a representation of themselves instead of having to post a real picture of themselves.  They can make the avatar look anyway they want

Road to Reading

In first grade we "love" Clifford so as part of our activities the students participate in the road to reading  by following  a series of short online books and games that focus on phonics activities for young children.  Once they complete their journey they get a license to READ!

A new twist on tags

I used to have the 5th grade students do a project in microsoft word with using draw tools where they made gift tags.  I have now adapted this activity using google drive/ drawing.  This way they can still make tags and even print more off at home if they want.  It is a great time of year to introduce this activity.

My favorites book timeline

Today we hit many skills as we started our timeline of books with 2nd graders.  First we talked about the 1st books they remembered reading or being read to them.  Then we searched under google images for book covers of some of our favorite books.  We are still searching and learning how to put our images into folders and save them.  What a fun way to learn about saving images and reliving our love of books.

New Template

We started using our new template for our websites so we have a place to keep all of the cool things we do!  Thanks to my fabulous media colleague Cathy Knutson!

Avatars

In the past I have had the kids create lego like avatars with something called reasonably clever.  I wanted to get something a little different so we are moving to another one I found in mini clip which allows to get a little closer to an actual image of themselves.

Here's an example

Kid Pix and Tux Paint

We are working on creating dots that can be 3D and another coloring page which will be 3D with an app called Colarapp.  We have also been creating dots in tux paint and now moving into Kid Pix .

Blogs , Blogs, Blogs

I thought it would be a good idea to have the 4th and 5th graders create a blog.  I might even start this with 3rd grade .  This way they can have a running journal of their year and keep their projects in here as well at least we will try it.

The DOT

Today we worked on "Dot " activities after watching the youtube video "the dot" and then going into tux paint and creating our dots.
